Step 2: Choose a Segment Definition
The segment definition builder is the same in ASI as it is in the Data Warehouse. In the Data Warehouse you are creating ONE report that is sent to you, typically a report that is not available in the Site Catalyst interface, In ASI, you are using the segment to create an entire Report Suite to access ALL the Site Catalyst reports for that segment.

To learn how to use the segment builder, please see the Data Warehouse section.

Step 3: Select the Date
When selecting the data associated with your ASI Report Suite, you have two choices: Time Slice and Daily Recurring.

Time Slice: This option allows you to simply set the start and end date for the data pulled into this ASI Report Suite. For example, if you are analyzing trends that happened for the month before a certain event, you can choose that month, and ASI will retrieve the data from only that time period.

Daily Recurring: With this option, you select a date that ASI will go back to in order to fill in the data. For example, if creating ASI suite sometime in February, maybe you want to have it go back to beginning of the year and fill in that data. After ASI “catches up” with your data, it will continue to follow you as long as it is running.

Important Note: ASI data is not real-time. Since the data is pulled from the Data Warehouse and reprocessed according to your segment definition, an ASI Report Suite will always be a couple of days behind real time.

Step 4: Add Notes and Approve the ASI Suite
At the bottom of the page, you can add notes for your ASI suite and click continue. This brings you to a summary page, where you will need to approve and submit the ASI Report Suite Request. The ASI Report Suite may or may not have a cost associated with it, based on your contract. Please contact an Omniture Support Representative for more information.

Example Segment for ASI
There are an unlimited number of segments that you could create with the segment builder. However here is an example for each of the containers in the segment builder.

Page View Container
If you have a large site, you may have specific people who work on only once section of the site. They may not want to have to wade through all the numbers to correlate items their site section. In this case, it might be helpful for you to pull out that Site Section with ASI into its own Report Suite. This would assume that you are using the Channel variable to populate the Site Section report, or doing a similar function with a Custom Insight variable and report.

In the segment builder, you would simply pull over a Page View container and define it to include pages “where Site Section equals Computers: (or whatever Site Section you are pulling out). This will create a Report Suite specific to that section of your site.

Visit Container
A visit container assumes that things change per visit. An easy example would be visits where people log in. You have a member section of your site, and you want to know what’s happening on the visits where people log in. For this solution, you must capture something when they log in. You could capture it in a Custom Insight report in Traffic or a Custom Evar report in Commerce.

In the segment builder, drag over a visit container, and define it so that it includes “where Login Status (Evar 5, for example) equals Logged In.”

Visitor Container
As previously mentioned, this container would include the most data. You might want to know about the people who responded to an email that you sent out. Remember that if you use a visitor container for this, instead of a visit container, you are going to see ALL the visits from that person who responded to the email, not just the data from the visits where they actually responded to it.

In our example, however let’s say that we do want to know about the people, not just the visits, so we choose the visitor container. Let’s also say that on our email we included a tracking code in the URL to identify that they clicked on the email to come to the site. This unique Tracking Code for this email is email_summer_special.

In the segment builder, you would want to drag over the visitor container, and then define it to include visitors “where Tracking Code equals email_summer_special.”
